First off was Falafel and totally inspired by happy vegan face.
The cool thing about Rose Elliot's The Supreme Vegetarian Cook Book is that the Falafel recipe gives a Vegan option too.

I'm guessing it's totally unethical of me to type the recipe in this here blog but lucky for us, but not so lucky for Rose, Jim Carson has totally put her recipe on his blog.

Instead of using chicken periods to bind all the otherwise scrummy ingredients just use 2 tablespoons of Chickpea Flour as a binding ingredient and as a coating for the Breadcrumbs you just make a batter mixture using Chickpea Flour again, mixed with a little water.
Simple.
These were served with Guacamole from Rose Elliot, warm Wholemeal Pittas from the Supermarket, Cauiliflower Salad from the Oxfam Vegetarian Cookbook (thanks 'lil pea), Simple Salad with the Spicey Mustard Dressing from Veganomicon and a Tomato Salsa that I just threw together using a tin of Plum Tomatoes, Green Pepper, Onions, Green Chilli, Garlic and Olive Oil.
Total yumness.
The Cauliflower Salad is really easy and really good - though a lot of people don't like the thought of raw Cauliflower I urge you to give it a try.
The secret is to chop ALL the ingredients up really really fine.
Yeah - I know you all look fine when you chop things up anyway!

That looks fantastic! I am not a huge fan of raw cauliflower but next to the falafel it looks like feta, quite appetizing. Awesome, as always!
I think I have that cookbook or a similar one (It's in German). It also has a falafel recipe with a vegan option. You know, I love, love, love that book. I was my first cookbook and still I haven't made falafel from it. Why?

My first thought was was that chicken periods must be some kind of exotic grain. I was thinking about period as the punctuation point and imagining them as being little spherical grains. :0)
I love raw cauliflower....it's one of my favourite raw veggies. And thanks for the link to the falafel recipe - I'm still searching for the PERFECT falafel! :)

Your post inspired me to make falafel, too! I cheated, though, and used a dry mix in my pantry, next to my little star pasta!
Thanks for the chickpea flour tip. I actually just used it the other day in seitan because Isa, in a recent post, suggested using it in place of nutritional yeast. It seemed to work really well. Also, thanks for passing on that recipe... I'll try it because it looks so good!

Oooh carrie - these are pretty darn perfect. I've tried a few Falafel recipes in my time and this is my favourite one by a long shot.
